My Friend Above...

574 days it's been to that blow you dealt.
18 months since you said your last goodbye.
A year and a half of coping, coming to terms.
My friend above, I hope you're watching.

The pain you left behind ripped apart,
The mask a misguided hatred had wrought.
I took stock of my erred hypocritical ways.
My friend above, I hope you approve.

The selfishness, self entitlement that crept in,
Destroyed a lot many friendships, in its wake.
But that misplaced ego, and my cretinous self,
Are all gone. My friend above, I hope you're proud.

Love, the stuff of legends, which you desired,
For yourself and me. Where you broke the promise,
Of keeping faith, I didn't. I found it, with the angel,
You always promised. My friend above, I hope you're happy.

The friend you always wanted from me,
The friendship you always deserved from me,
Though I bear the cross of not being one then,
I am one now to others. My friend above, I hope you forgive me.

No one is perfect in this life, least of all me.
Since all one can do is try, so I do. As you were my hummingbird,
I try to be that same source, of hope, happiness, for others.
My friend above, I hope you see a part of you preserved in me.

But most of all, my friend above, I hope you're listening.
As you watch over me from starry skies, hear me when I say,
That most of all, not a day goes by when I don't miss you.
And I hope that, my friend above, you miss me too.
