Tell Me Your Sins... - Part - I

The day had been like every other – listening to professors’ droning; lunching at the god-awful canteen; enduring pathetic lab sessions; getting ignored by his entire batch. But on his way back, he noticed a sudden rise in the amount of chatter being generated in the bus. Taking off his earphones, he caught on fragments such as “confessions page…so cool…guy proposed…girl wrote fantasies…” Never much interested in the mindless hubbub of his college, this piece of chit-chat piqued his interest and he decided to check it out first thing as soon as he got home.

Although delayed by unannounced arrival of guests and the need to indulge in social niceties for the sake of his parents, once the guests were out and dishes cleared, he logged onto facebook to check out what had been on his mind ever since his ride back home. In a few hours he visited almost every confessions page created, read the posts and did a background research on the history and modus operandi of such pages. It was then he came up with a plan - why shouldn't he have some fun, stripping down his collegian society and laying it bare for its people to see? And on the off-chance, may be play Devil?

An idea that sticks can drive you to paranoia. And with his outrageous idea, came his equally outrageous, even paranoid planning. Keeping a facebook page would be too clichéd for anyone to take it seriously, so he came up with the idea of hosting it on a private server to which he gave restricted access rights to requests from his college’s student network only. The feel of exclusivity would be another drawing factor, thanks to the idiotic notion of “what happens in college stays in college”. Once the link is spammed to each and every connected node and people log on, the games will begin as hypocrisy will finally go for a toss. Of course he would promise anonymity, but with his training he would track and record the identity of each and every confessor. And when the monsters have had their show at night, he’ll raise hell the next day by being the devil’s word. Whispering in unanticipating ears, creating rumors, giving people just the right nudge here and there till all hell breaks loose and with truth comes sweet chaos.

For the entire next month this idea occupied most of his mind’s conscious and unconscious time. When he wasn't coding to get the securities and proxies in place, he was hunting for loopholes in his scheme so that at no point can this be traced back to him. Within two months of its inception, his idea had become reality and he spammed the links to everyone. Now was the tough part – waiting. To his surprise, he didn't have to wait long. It was as if the flood gates had opened and a barrage of people rushed in. Hoping this tendency of feeding right off his hand continues, he welcomed them all to confess. Within 3 hours his entire college was logged on. Within 4 hours he had the first confession – a girl’s unending love for a boy.

With a sip of black coffee, he smirked and said it aloud, “Tell me your sins…”
